SACRAMENTO, CA — California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) issued the following statement in response to Representative Mike Garcia (CA-25) siding with the country’s richest corporations and special interest groups.

Statement from Aaron McCall, Federal Advocacy Coordinator, EnviroVoters:

“When faced with the choice of holding corporations accountable for record gas prices from price gouging his constituents or continuing to serve as the mouthpiece for corporate polluters Rep. Mike Garcia chose not to vote for Katie Porter’s Oil and Price Gouging Prevention Act, and chose not to vote for historic investments that would reduce inflation and ensure energy independence. The people of the 25th congressional district are holding their representative accountable for his voting record that doesn’t seem to align with the struggles of working families in his district.”

Event Details:

Price Gouging Accountability Press Conference

Who:  EnviroVoters, Center for Popular Democracy, Indivisible Northridge, and CA-25 community members

When: Wednesday, October 19th at 10 a.m.

Where: We will be walking from from Shell Gas Station (24301 Valencia Blvd, Santa Clarita, CA 91355) to Garcia’s Office (23734 Valencia Boulevard Suite 301, Santa Clarita, CA 91355)

Why: Garcia voted against the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), claiming it aggravates inflation, and the Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act, which would lower gas prices and keep corporations accountable. Now that gas prices are soaring while crude oil prices are down, he stands in the way of inflation relief and gas price reduction.

EnviroVoters is coming together to highlight that there are solutions to these problems, but Garcia is actively ignoring them. Alongside Center for Popular Democracy, Indivisible Northridge, and CA-25 community members, we will be speaking on the impact of gas prices and Mike Garcia’s refusal to address gas inflation.

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
