Ask Your Senator: Why Aren't You Supporting Bills to Make California More Affordable?

We Can’t Buy A Home While Insurance Costs Skyrocket

We need our legislators focused on solutions that make California more affordable.

When given the chance, these state senators said YES to protecting renters and homeowners from skyrocketing insurance costs.

Thank you, Senator Ben Allen, Senator John Laird, Senator Henry Stern, Senator Akilah Weber-Pierson, and Senator Scott Wiener!

But why didn’t Senators Jesse Arreguín, Angelique Ashby, Anna Caballero, Maria Elena Duraz, Tom Umberg, and Aisha Wahab support a solution?

SB 222 would have lowered insurance costs by making polluters pay. Instead of forcing homeowners, renters, and businesses to bear the full cost of rebuilding, SB 222 ensures oil companies contribute their fair share to disaster recovery efforts.

Why are we paying more?

    • Because of the LA wildfires, the FAIR Plan, California’s insurer of last resort, has run out of money, and the federal government is failing to provide sufficient aid.
    • We are on the brink of another costly wildfire season. Every year of inaction means higher insurance rates and fewer options for coverage.
    • By shifting the costs from consumers to Big Oil, we can preserve California’s insurance market, keep premiums down, and lower costs for renters and homeowners.

We need Big Oil to help so Californians don’t bear these cost burdens alone. Three million Californians insured by State Farm are set to pay hundreds of dollars more to keep the insurance they already have. Without real reform, other insurers will inevitably follow, and California’s affordable housing crisis will only grow.

Email your senator and ask them to take action to reduce costs and make life more affordable for Californians.
