Letter from our Boards of Directors
Dear Friends, Members, and Supporters,
We are thrilled to celebrate the 50th anniversary of California Environmental Voters. It is an honor to be working to sustain and expand the organization so it can deliver on its mission for the next 50 years.
In 2022, with the passage of the federal Inflation Reduction Act, the allocation of $54 billion into climate and clean energy investments from California’s budget surplus, and the passage of several climate bills by the California Legislature at the end of last session, we have seen significant progress on climate action. It was also a transformative year for California Environmental Voters and the California Environmental Voters Education Fund. While our organizations have been working proactively with committed partners and grassroots environmental organizations this past year to facilitate these incredible results, we’ve also been transforming from the inside, as the composition of our Boards evolve, and their members rise collectively to meet the moment of the climate crisis.
Over the last two years, the environmental and civic leaders on our Boards of Directors have doubled down on their commitment to a future free of fossil fuels, dedicated themselves to expanding our programs, and ensured the impact of our work advances racial justice and equity. The composition of our Boards is becoming more diverse — 50% of members are leaders of color representing broad and deep expertise in our field, and membership has expanded into more regions of California, including inland areas of the state. Our Boards are fostering a culture of philanthropy, dedicating themselves to fundraising, and achieving new financial milestones — 100% of board members personally supported our nonprofit efforts last year and members are making multiyear financial commitments to fund our mission and honor California Environmental Voters’ 50th anniversary. In concert with our efforts to solve the climate crisis, advance equity, and create a roadmap for global action, funding has more than tripled over the last four years, in no small part due to the leadership of our Boards.
We are pleased to introduce you to the climate justice champions who sit on the California Environmental Voters Board of Directors: https://www.envirovoters.org/board/
