Press Release
April 1, 2015
We applaud Governor Brown for his leadership in calling for statewide water use restrictions, and for this important recognition that we all have a responsibility and a need to think carefully about how we use one of California’s most precious natural resources. We are at a point in our state’s historic drought where we are running out of time to address this enormous challenge. The important steps announced by the governor will ensure that each and every Californian considers their water “footprint” and that we are all part of the solution. That means everyone – from individuals to large industries.
It became more apparent during last year’s difficult and necessary discussions about groundwater management that our state’s failure to sustainably manage groundwater would undermine our ability to utilize it during times of drought. In California’s urban centers, the best potential for water conservation requires us to adopt new habits. We must all do our part to reduce our use of this precious resource, and we look forward to mobilizing our 150,000 members to continue to do their part and to urge large-scale users to do more to protect this critical resource for future generations of Californians.
ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all. Join us at www.envirovoters.org and on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. See more press releases.
