WASHINGTON, DC—The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) and the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, announced today their endorsement of Dr. Ami Bera for re-election to Congress (CA-7). As a thoughtful advocate for America’s clean energy future, Dr. Bera seeks to better our nation’s environmental sustainability while also stimulating economic growth and safeguarding our nation’s public health.
“Throughout his first term in Congress, Dr. Bera has demonstrated savvy environmental leadership, advocating for the technology, education, and training that will build our nation’s clean energy economy,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “Congressman Bera’s devotion to responsible, clean development of our communities and his industrious efforts to reduce harmful air and water pollution show his deep-rooted concern for our nation’s public health.”
“Congressman Bera’s forward-looking approach to conservation will both preserve the grandeur of California’s natural landscapes and fuel a sustainable economy,” said Sarah Rose, CEO of the California League of Conservation Voters. “Having served as a physician and Chief Medical Officer in Sacramento County, he’s determined to protect our state and nation from the negative health effects of climate change.”
“Sacramento County is already a leader in the green job sector and I’m working to invest in clean energy innovation so that we can both protect our earth for our children and grandchildren, and continue to create jobs and grow our local economy,” said Dr. Bera. “I’m proud to receive the endorsement of the CLCV and LCV Action Fund for my record of protecting the planet and promoting a clean energy future.”
Dr. Bera is committed to growing a clean energy economy that will generate good-paying jobs for an assortment of workers, many of whom would be trained through the public education and training programs he supports. Furthermore, he cosponsored legislation that would encourage federal facilities to implement energy and water saving measures through public-private partnerships, a step towards a greener economy.
It’s no surprise that, as a physician, Dr. Bera seeks to protect public and environmental health. He’s voted against legislation that would prevent the EPA from limiting carbon emissions from power plants, the nation’s largest source of the pollution driving climate change. Dr. Bera’s willingness to take action on climate change will protect our important natural resources and improve the health of our families.
In 2012, LCV developed the Flat Earth Five program, which succeeded in defeating four climate change-denying incumbents in the House of Representatives. Dr. Ami Bera, who was endorsed by CLCV and LCVAF, unseated former Congressman Dan Lungren, one of the Flat Earth Five members. Since 2012, Congressman Bera has proved a strong ally for taking action on climate change, and has provided much needed environmental leadership in California’s 7th district.
Congressman Bera’s voting record earned him a 93% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard in 2013, his first year in Congress. The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit http://scorecard.lcv.org.
