California League of Conservation Voters Statement on Nomination of Senator Hill as Chair of the Environmental Quality Committee
Sacramento, CA– The California League of Conservation Voters issued the following statement in response to Senator Darrell Steinberg’s nomination of Senator Jerry Hill to be the new chair of the Environmental Quality Committee.
The committee’s jurisdiction includes some of California’s most significant environmental issues including continued implementation of the AB 32 framework, the California Environmental Quality Act, as well as legislation related to toxics in our communities and waste management.
In 2012, Senator Hill earned 100% on the California League of Conservation Voters scorecard, which rates the actions of every state legislator and the governor on the state’s environmental priorities each legislative year.
The statement from CLCV CEO Sarah Rose follows:
“We are thrilled that Senator Hill will lead the Senate’s Environmental Quality Committee.
“We applaud Senator Steinberg for this nomination, his leadership on the important issues that come before the Environmental Quality Committee, and in particular, his work to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders on efforts to strengthen the California Environmental Quality Act.
“We recognize Senator Hill as an environmental and community leader. We look forward to working with him as Chair of this important committee and are confident that he will bring his commitment and legislative skills to bear in efforts to support effective implementation of CEQA, improve and protect water quality, and on hazardous waste. These are issues of critical importance to all Californians.”
